Readers Cafe Book Discussion
Wednesday, September 16th 1:30pm AND Saturday, September 19th 9am
This month we discuss Before the Fall by Noah Hawley
On a foggy summer night, eleven people–ten privileged, one down-on-his luck painter–depart Martha’s Vineyard on a private jet headed for New York. Sixteen minutes later, the unthinkable happens: the plane plunges into the ocean. The only survivors are the painter Scott Burroughs and a four-year-old boy, who is now the last remaining member of an immensely wealthy and powerful media mogul’s family. Was it by chance that so many
influential people perished? Or was something more sinister at work?

Banjos Bones, and Ballads
Wednesday, September 30th 6pm
Traditional songs, rich in local history and a sense of place, present the latest news from the distant past. They help us to interpret present-day life with an understanding of the working people who built our country. Tavern songs, banjo tunes, 18th century New England hymns, sailor songs, and humorous stories about traditional singers and their songs highlight this informative program. This program will be presented in our new outdoor covered pavilion (weather permitting).
